The effectiveness of men’s wet shaving relies on your shaving technique and skills in creating the perfect lather. Regardless of whether you prefer a straight razor or safety razor, mastering your shaving technique and your lather-making skill will enable your shave to improve.
- Creating the perfect lather
Dip your brush in shaving cream and give it four or five shakes. Wipe an almond size of cream, on the brush, and put it on your shaving cream bowl. Whip it for about 40 seconds and feel the texture by rubbing it between your fingers. Add water and whip for around 40 seconds, then texture again. Repeat the process until the lather is perfectly thin and smooth.
- Brush like an artist
When applying leather, use the brush like an artist. Don’t press it into your face, you can get brush burn before you even begin shaving. First, dab over your face gently to deposit lather. Second, move the brush in a circular motion to spread lather. Third, paint over to ensure it is evenly spread.
Shaving Technique

You can map your face along with the growth and grain by feeling with your hand. If you feel any resistance while running your hand over the face in every direction possible, you’ll you are going against the grain.
MEN’S WET SHAVING ADVICE
- When to use double-edged or straight edge razor
Straight edge razor is more aggressive and can irritate if you use it in areas with softer skin such as around the neck and throat. For the neck region, use a double-edged razor gently tilted at the perfect angle while avoiding sudden neck movements. For flat surfaces, use a straight-edge razor in a tilted angle, ensuring the cap or hood is nearly flat against the skin while the cutting edge is aimed downward into your face. When you commence shaving, open your ears and listen intently to the sound of your whiskers to determine whether the blade is cutting at a perfect angle or sliding over.
- Shaving the Adam’s apple
Shaving around and over Adam’s apple is tricky, and you can cut yourself if you are not careful. To hide Adam’s apple, swallow and hold in your breath to allow for a much easier shave.
- Shaving below the nostrils
When shaving whiskers below the nostrils, move your razor east to the west, followed by the west to east to the midpoint.
