MEN’S OILY SKIN CARE ROUTINE

A men’s oily skin care routine should address the fact that men’s oily skin is thicker and has larger pores to be taken care of so it does not become clogged, resulting in an increase of blackheads or whiteheads. Skin is thick, dull, and generally insensitive to harsh chemicals and climates. A skincare routine is essential to keep the oil and breakouts at bay. So let’s dive into building a basic skincare routine for your oily skin.

MEN’S OILY SKIN CARE ROUTINE

Step 1: Cleanse

We recommend: Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Cleansing Gel

Why? Remove dirt and oil your skin naturally collects.

When? Twice a day, morning and night.

Helps minimize the look of pores, fine lines and wrinkles, leaving skin feeling clean, pure, fresh and radiant.

Step 2: Tone

We recommend: Murad Clarifying Toner

Why? Remove dirt and oil missed when cleansing, and prime the skin for moisturiser. But toning can be optional if you’re short on time.

Your toner will collect any excess dirt and oil left after cleansing, as well as priming the skin to allow moisturisezs and serums to penetrate deeper into your skin. Using an astringent toner will help kill blemish-causing bacteria.

Step 3: Treat

We recommend: Clinique for Men Exfoliating Tonic

Why? If you want to target a specific issue, such as fine lines and wrinkles, or large pores, then look at adding a serum to your routine.

When? 1-2 times a day, after toning.

Like the vitamin-packed shot you add to your juice, serums are highly concentrated, fast-acting and effective. Salicylic Acid will gently exfolaite skin to control oil, reduce the appearance of pores and keep skin clearer.

Step 4: Moisturize

We recommend: Baxter of California Oil Free Moisturizer

Why? Don’t mistake oil for moisture. Surprisingly, oily skin can be quite dehydrated, and skin will produce extra oil to compensate. Even the oiliest of skin should be using a moisturizer to properly hydrate and balance skin.

When? Twice a day, morning and night, after toning and/or applying serum.

Choose an oil-free, lightweight cream or gel moisturiser that won’t leave you looking shiny. If your moisturizer doesn’t contain any SPF, always apply a sunscreen afterwards.

Step 5: Exfoliate

We recommend: Marlowe Facial Scrub Bar For Men

Why? Remove dead skin cells, revitalise complexion and prep the skin for shaving.

When? 2-3 times a week, after cleaning and before shaving.

Dead skin cells will cause oil to build-up under the surface, which causes pimples. Regular exfoliation will keep everything clean and new.

Optional: Face Mask

We recommend: Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Mask

Why? Remove dead skin cells, revitalize complexion and clear impurities.

When? 1-2 times a week, after cleansing.

A gentle mask will get into your pores to draw out oils and impurities that a cleanser can’t reach.
